Course Description

Workplace positive psychology exercises are relatively simple practices that can be incorporated into daily life and have the potential to benefit the well-being of individual employees and the organizations of which are they are a part. This webinar will review the repertoire of individual-level positive psychology exercises that have been adapted for use in the workplace and provide guidance on how to effectively implement them in practice. Exercises reviewed will include: job crafting, gratitude, acts of kindness, and the reflected best self exercise. The guidance offered will address practical limitations as well as caveats from researchers throughout this practitioner-oriented webinar.

  • To identify the various types of workplace positive psychology practices that have been evaluated by researchers
  • To follow guidelines for implementing specific evidence-based workplace positive psychology practices as a complement to more foundational ways of addressing employee well-being.
  • To carefully consider personal and organizational factors that may impact the effectiveness of these practices and their ability to cultivate more lasting changes.

Carolyn Winslow, PhD

Industrial/organizational Psychologist, Applied Researcher, and Consultant, Interdisciplinary Center for Healthy Workplaces, University of California, Berkeley, USA

Carolyn Winslow is an industrial/organizational psychologist, applied researcher, and consultant at the Interdisciplinary Center for Healthy Workplaces at the University of California, Berkeley, whose mission is to integrate and apply interdisciplinary sciences to achieve worker well-being. Her  program of research at the Center focuses on understanding and improving employee psychological well-being, with a focus on identifying ways of promoting positive emotional experiences at work and its subsequent effects on valued organizational outcomes. She has experience designing positive psychology programs and interventions for implementation in a variety of organizational settings, and is passionate about using science to inform evidence-based organizational policies and practices that contribute to the health, happiness, and performance of employees. Beyond employee well-being, she has also conducted research on a variety of other organizational psychology topics relevant to well-being, including workforce diversity and inclusion, effective organizational leadership, team performance processes. Her research has been published in top psychology journals, including the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, the Journal of Business and Psychology, and the Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior. She currently serves on the Healthy Work Design and Well-Being Cross-Sector Council as a part of the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA).  She received her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from George Mason University in 2017.
